Semperdata’s web client gives the project manager full control over a migration project. The project dashboard breaks the project into six phases and clearly shows the progress within each one. Flow Rate Management
The project manager has full control over the data flow rate by changing the number of streams used for data extraction out of the source and for data storage into the target. Streams can be scaled up during off-peak hours to increase the flow rates and scaled back while clinical demands are high.
Early Target Go-live
The target system if often selected because it has advanced features. Clinicians will want to go live with the target before all the data has been migrated from the legacy system. Semperdata Migration Manager supports an early go-live by prioritizing the most recent years and certain study types, like mammography, to be migrated into the target first. Once the target is live, Semperdata uses the modality worklist to anticipate prior studies that will be needed for comparisons. It pre-fetches those studies and prioritizes their migration into the target so they are ready before they are needed.
Normalize to the DICOM Standard
Laitek’s extensive experience with data migrations has shown that different image management systems enforce different aspects of the DICOM standard. Because system interoperability is so important now and, in the future, normalizing the data to the standard will maximize interoperability and minimize future data sharing challenges. Semperdata normalizes the DICOM data to the strict rules of the DICOM standard and industry best practices as it stores the data into the target.
Localize the Patient and Study Metadata
With the help of Laitek’s professional services team, Semperdata can be configured to automatically transform the source’s patient demographics and study metadata into values consistent with the target system. This keeps data clean and consistent in the target system without having to override values later in the target.

Verify in Target
A positive storage acknowledgement is not always enough. Some systems use asynchronous processes to move the data from one stage to the next before the data is finally archived. Semperdata performs robust verification steps to check that all data has been fully archived, and redoes storage operations when necessary.
Semperdata Migration Manager performs a final source/target reconciliation before the project is closed. If any images from the source could not be stored into the target, Semperdata can insert exception notice images into the target that inform clinicians that data may be missing. If any studies remain unmigrated into the target system, Semperdata can export those as DICOM files or send them to another storage solution, like Semperdata Atrium.
